Office Based Projects
- Setting up classes using local language DVD ’s to educate on basic life skills
- Teaching business skills and ways to start small income producing projects
- Facilitating adult education lessons especially for the teaching of English
- Discussion groups on best methods of marketing produce
- Teaching of computer skills and office procedures e.g. typing, book-keeping
- Open a nursery school to supplement existing primary education
Craft Orientated Skills
- Expand existing knowledge of making pots and decorative plates
- Build up skills for new designs of mats and baskets, suitable for souvenirs
- Passing on knitting and tailoring skills to interested adults and teenagers
- Learning of new crafts e.g. Batik, Tie Dye, Crochet
- Production of handmade beads & Jewellery Making
- Learning to make souvenirs from waste materials
- Practice the staging of drama, singing, dancing and musical shows
- Learning wood carving, especially items suitable as tourist souvenirs
- Learn sellable skills such as hair-braiding, shaving, massage, manicure etc
Vocational Trades
- Opening of a series of small workshops to teach unskilled youngsters a trade, utilising tools ready & waiting to be used at Uganda Lodge e.g. mechanics, plumbers, electricians, builders, carpenters etc
- Learn new nutritious cooking recipes, using locally available ingredients
Horticultural Projects
- Organise lectures on eco-friendly farming methods (Kulika Trust Training)
- Facilitating the introduction of new varieties of vegetables and fruits
- Setting up nursery beds for trees and plants to sell on to local farmers
- Promote the growing of Artemisia & other plants for Malaria & ARV drugs
- Training course on methods of fruit-drying for “Fruits of the Nile” in Jinja
- Building a demonstration mushroom growing house & methods of drying
Animal Husbandry
- Demonstration chicken rearing unit for broilers
- Demonstration chicken rearing unit for producing eggs
- Profitable Rabbit keeping
- Pig breeding and fattening for pork or further breeding
- Goat rearing for meat and introducing goat’s milk especially for infants
- Digging fish-ponds and starting profitable fish farming e.g. Tilapia
- Bee keeping and honey production
- Making a profit from just one cow
Tourist Related Projects
- Organise lectures on what to offer tourists & how to manage them (UCOTA training)
- Learn to host tourists on hill-walks and visits to nearby villages and farms
- Plan set walks around the area of varying lengths and difficulty
- Take lessons on serving and providing meals & drinks for tourists
- Teach tourists about locally grown fruits and vegetables & how they’re used
- Get information from schools on how tourists could volunteer their services
Other Social Enterprise Projects
- Build & open kiosks at the front of Uganda Lodge to sell local produce and crafts
- Complete the building of a community hall for many village activities & classes
- Continue with the building of craft centre/workshop for various vocational/business classes
- Open a second-hand clothing store to make a small profit
- Dig a well with hand-pump as a safe water supply outside Uganda Lodge
- Open a salon/beauty parlour for locals and tourists alike
